computer starts on blue screen and reboots all the time

Hi Amlak,

I really appreciate your help!! :thumbsup:

After re-starting the computer for a few times :lol:

i managed to get the last file on the safe mode screen:

Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\BTHidMgr.sys

I use the OTLPE CD and ran chkdsk , there were no errors on the result it showed 0K bad sectors...
After doing all the steps i tried to start the computer but it goes back to the blue screen and rebooting itself. :wacko:

Hi, Maria10. Some more questions to ask you for troubleshooting purposes.

Could you explain to me as much as you can about how it started happening? What were you doing last that led to this boot issue?

Also, do you by any chance have some Bluetooth device attached to the system? Or some Bluetooth switch turned on? That file you mentioned is related to Bluetooth functioning. So I thought I ask about it.

Sure Amlak, let me tell you what has happened...

My partner tried to update/replace the old version of Microsoft Office which was installed on the computer... but he did that through a link that his brother had sent to him... for Microsoft Office, WinRar and also an update for System32
I believe that's all he mentioned.
I am not sure from where the brother obtained these links... It took ages downloading it.
Next day he tried to start the computer the blue screen error was there... i tried to run CHKDSK but wouldn't get the DOS running i also tried to access BIOS Setup utility made a change on the "Startup" Boot and Network on the Boot priority order but as it didn't work i put it back to the Default... That's when i tried to check your forum to find similar issues and later decided to post a topic asking for help.

He basically messed everything up :angry:

Regarding the Bluetooth device which you see, it might well be the cordless Logitech mouse which i use on this computer.

Heya, Maria10. If possible, please disconnect that cordless mouse and see what happens when you reboot the computer without it.

If nothing changes, then try the following:

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer

Run GETxPUD.exe
A new folder will appear on the desktop.
Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
Next download rst.sh to your USB drive
Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
The computer must be set to boot from the CD
Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
Follow the prompts
A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
Press File
Expand mnt
sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD
sdb1 is likely your USB
Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?)
Confirm that you see rst.sh that you downloaded there
Press Tool at the top
Choose Open Terminal
Type bash rst.sh
Press Enter
After it has finished a report will be located on your USB drive named enum.log
Remove the USB drive and insert it back in your working computer and navigate to enum.log

Please note - all text entries are case sensitive

Copy and paste the enum.log for my review

Sorry, i forgot to mention that i have removed the wireless mouse and reboot the computer but nothing has changed so i run the xPUD and rst.sh

Hi, Maria10. Do you have two Windows installations in your system? Or is the second partition just a backup partition?

Hi Amlak,
I also notice when trying to go into safe mode it would give me 2 options on Microsoft Windows XP... but i am not sure if it is a backup only, it has been running like this for a long time... Many years ago it was taken to a place and i believe it was installed but not really sure what was done.
If you think is beneficial to remove one of them, or you can suggest what can be done as it might be the reason for the start up error.

Ok, I suspect we may have been scanning the wrong Windows installation. When you double-click OTLPE in the Reatogo environment, do you actually get a dialog box that prompts you to choose which drive (and Windows) to select? Or does it quickly ask you: Do you wish to load the remote registry?

Also, in the same Reatogo environment, could you paste here the contents of both boot.ini files directly under C: and D: and browse both drives and identify for me which drive is the one you're familiar with as your recent Windows installation drive?

Sorry for the headache !!! :smashcomp:

When i double click on OTLPE icon a dialog box prompts asking :
Do you wish to load remote user profile for scanning? YES / NO

If i choose YES another dialog box comes up with the following:

Select User Profile (3 options)
Kursad
Local Service
Network Service

At the bottom there is a box ticked where it reads:
Automatically load all remaining users?

Then it goes to the "Run scan" screen

If i choose the option NO it goes straight to the "Run scan" screen

*** I am not sure if i was able to identify the correct drive, but i believe the one which the Windows was "recently" installed is the drive D: (it contains the files for IBM ThinkVantage reason why some time ago it was taken to a place for replacement as the files were lost somehow)this is the only reason it makes me think this is the one which was in use, sorry i wasn't quite sure how to identify this.

I ran a search for files boot.ini and got a few results i hope this is what you were looking for:

This is under D:

You said as you go to Safe Mode that you see two boot options. What happens when you click the other boot option?

The same thing happens now no matter which one i choose...
sometime ago... the 2nd option would take me to the safe mode now it doesn't! I keeps rebooting over and over again.

To make it really easier for me, I'm going to have to keep asking you questions until I'm sure I'm getting this all figured out.

What folders/files (for example on the Windows desktop or under My Documents or My Pictures or My Music) will help you identify the drive you had been using recently before the issue occurred? I can help you with the exact paths if you don't know where to look for them.

Is Kursad the user account that you had been using recently to log into Windows? If you access C:\Documents and Settings\Kursad and enter the Desktop or My Pictures or My Music folder, do you notice files you recognize as part of your current Windows?

Are you (or your partner or his brother) familiar with the following names (as they were created very recently under C: according to the logs)?

AVSoftware
PC Cleaners
PCPro
PC1Data
ErrorEND

If you go to the D: drive and enter Documents and Settings folder under the D: drive, what folders do you see?

What antivirus are you using for your current Windows?

Take your time in answering the questions above.
