At first when I open the program, it tells me the database is obsolete and directs me to a webpage to download but they only have products that I can buy and download.

It is obsolete since it had been on your computer for so long. That is why it has some restrictions. But go ahead and finish it in safe mode and post the results then do the manual scan and attach it as instructed

Ok so I clicked disinfect. The same window popped up again but this time the disinfect option is grayed out saying disinfection is not possible. Reason: disinfection failed. I can only click on delete or skip.

Ok after I clicked skip, the same window popped up listing the same virus and this time the disinfection option is available just like the first time.
