OK boring bit....... Start Msconfig again

1. Click the Services tab.

2. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
3. Tick to enable half of the drivers /services, and then click OK.
4. When you are prompted, click Restart.

If after the reboot all seems well then we know that those drivers/services are OK
If there is still a problem then run Msconfig and untick half of those that you just enabled.
If there is no problem then run Msconfig and enable half of the remaining drivers etc.. etc... until we locate the on causing the hiccups

I notice Avast on the list. I thought we uninstalled it (or I thought I had my son uninstall it while I was on travel)

OK.. So far, so good. I'll look back at the Avast removal instructions and perform that while we check out computer functionality. My bet is on the NVIDIA driver, which we have not turned on in this round. I had to step away for a bit, so I'll start the 2nd half of the drivers

OK, I'm back. The version of Avast that I just uninstalled was 4, which seems a bit odd (an older version). Moving on to the 2nd half of the drivers now.

Just enable half of the remaining ones that will then whittle down the culprit

Half of the remaining half (75%) enabled and all seems to be OK. In the remaining 25% are two drivers I am going to hold off on enabling, NVIDIA and Display Fusion. So far this weekend, the computer has run flawlessly.

Sorry, Display Fusion was enabled during the first 50%, so that's OK

All drivers have been clicked back on except for the NVIDIA Display Driver Service. The computer has run with no issues all weekend. At this point I'm OK with letting the system run as it is and see if we get any freezes. I'm ready to not enable the NVIDIA driver, even though I've not proven enabling the driver will cause the freezes.
