I am not sure if you are avoiding a reinstall as a last resort or not, but I have no problem doing so. I have backed up all my important files onto my second hard drive so I am ready at any time

If you want to reinstall Windows, I have a tutorial on how to do so. Or we could go with your Recovery partition or CD if you have one.
However, it's your decision.

I have reinstalled Windows and everything is working fine now, thanks for the help.
