Take your time, no problem. Again I really appreciate what you are doing for me. I tried updating again today but again all 41 failed except for those below which apparently are "important" updates:-

Sorry to stick my nose in here, however for information, I am seeing elsewhere on the net reports of problems with some, or even all of the latest (Today's) batch of updates. Quite a few failures to install, with installs working at the second attempt.

 

One of which is KB 2952664 refusing to install at all, however that particular KB number is being issued at each set of updates since around April, I found three instances of it having been installed on my computer, yet this morning it failed to install and doesn't come back to try again, and not just for me but several other folks as well.

 

I hope not a wild goose chase Donna, but is that particular update a part of this threads problems?

 

Again for information, what little there is, that KB 2952664 appears to be some form of system readiness tool if a Windows 7 user wishes to upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1. Just spent an hour or two researching that particular update, seems quite a lot written about it but not much real knowledge available as Microsoft seem reluctant to talk about it.

That same KB failed on my W7 x64 as well. See below:

I see it was offered and had failed back in April on my system as well, and nothing else about it till today. From my point of view, no, that update has nothing to do with why the Security updates are failing. Jane has pointed out that she is getting updates though they are limited to other MS software and not windows security updates.

At the moment, I am looking beyond the error codes. Those last sets of logs have a plethora of info in them. Just need to take a close look to see what had happened here to cause the failures.

I didn't forget about you. Sorry I took so long to reply.

I did come upon a lot of errors in your logs, though I have to admit that they are a bit above my knowledge on how to fix without breaking the system further.

You could try a system restore point to a time before this began which appears to be in early September if you have a restore point that goes back that far. Otherwise a restore to factory condition at this time will quicken the process and get your system back to being error free.

Have you ever used any registry cleaners on this computer or has it ever been heavily infected?

No need to apologise. I will consider a restore, but prior to that, it's been suggested to me to check the services as there may be something odd there? I have not used any registry cleaners and luckily have not been heavily infected. I was wondering if now is the time to contact Microsoft direct after following all of their fixes and having so much help from yourself and still no solution. What do you think?

Hi Jane,

I found your email notification on page 2!

Services may very well have something to do with these failures and the TrustedInstaller (Windows Modules Installer) fails to install updates. From my understanding the startup type should be set to Manual till an update is pending reboot, at which time it is then set to Automatic to complete the install process on reboot, then should revert back to Manual to prepare for the next time. If it never gets set to Automatic, the update does not process and fails causing all the updates thereafter to fail.

If you haven't resolved this issue, you could type services.msc into your Start Search field, scroll down and look for the Windows Modules Installer service, double click to open and change the Startup type to Automatic and reboot to see what happens, though you might have to rollback the pending updates and I am not sure how to do that without causing more damage. That is why I suggested a system restore to a time before this occurred.

I think it would be a good idea to contact Microsoft.

The problem is fixed. I am now getting all updates.

 

DonnaB had asked me before to look at the error codes of failed updates and they were all the same (80F0826).

My partner looked through them again and found a different error code that I had missed for update KB3000061.

He then deleted everything within WINEVT in the Registry,  downloaded the KB3000061 update and activated it.

 

It installed successfully. I then tried to install 38 updates and they all installed successfully.

 

He had also followed some advice in this video to Clear Windows Update Cache and fix Windows Updates:-

 

 

In all honesty, I still am not sure of the root of the problem, but for now it appears updates are installing which is great.

 

Many, many thanks for all of your help Donna. I really appreciate the fact that you offer your time and thoughts to people needing help.

I am a novice but having problems like this has helped me learn more about the workings of my pc.

It has been a very interesting experience.

Forgot to say my computer is also now running smoothly and faster, I think maybe all the various fixes I tried may have helped fix other issues.
