I would like to create a real-time group messaging application according to some data found. For each different section found (lets say for each different sport found) i want to create a group of that sport, and only let the people who are playing that sport join the group.

I am not sure how the design will work for this. I will implement this app for both android and IOS, so they will need to share data, thus i will need a database to store messages.

Can someone lay out an overview of the things ill need to implement this project?

Thank you

It seems you're asking for someone to tell you exactly how to design this app, which is the wrong course of action to take.

Do some research, find out what goes into creating an app (i.e learning Swift for iOS) and you'll find that you don't really need to resort to asking someone else, you'll see your solution laid out for you in your mind.

That being said, you need to have not only a database, but you need to implement some sort of listener for the incoming messages and a push function to send the messages out to the clients. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck.
