I think if you have usbuhci then you don't need usbohci so I'm probably barking up the wrong tree.

Can you do a FRST File Search for

usb.inf

I want to make sure we are using the  the latest version.

You are not using the absolute newest version but it is a fairly recent version.

I'm going to fire up the Win 7 again but won't be able to get to it until tomorrow.  Wife is home and wants me to watch TV with her.

Not sure why but Windows may think you have a Tablet.  Export

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Tablet PC

Two similarly named keys for 'tablet pc'

One with a space in between the two words, one without.

Both attached.

Looking at the TabletSPACEpc.reg you have some strange values.  This is what it should be:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Tablet PC]
"IsTabletPC"=dword:00000000
"DeviceKind"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Tablet PC\Cache]
"HPETP"=dword:00000000

This is what you have (Differences in BOLD):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Tablet PC]
"IsTabletPC"=dword:00000100
"DeviceKind"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Tablet PC\Cache]
"HPETP"=dword:00000100

The no space one is the same as mine and I don't see it being read in Process Monitor

I'm thinking this key has something to do with touch screens so it's unlikely that it will have an effect on USB but you never know.  This isn't a touchscreen is it?

Try changing the two values to 0 then reboot and reinstall the scanner.

Launching the edited reg file:

"Cannot import Tablet PC.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry.

Some keys are open by the system or other processes."

Manualy changing the hexadecimal from 100 to 000 or 0:

"Cannot edit IsTabIetPC: Error writing the value's new contents."

This was despite first changing the owner to myself (as done in previous posts).

Check the permissions on the key.  If you are the owner you should be able to give yourself (or Administrator) Full Control.

Understand but what does it say on the permissions page for your Administrator or your login?

That system has full control and read.

Under advanced, System has full control for key and subkeys.

Under Owner, All Administrators including me have permission.

On the first page of the Permissions click on Administrator and make sure it has Full Control.

Only shows 'Everyone' & 'SYSTEM', not Administrators unless I click on Owner.

Click on Add from the first Permissions screen.  Type in Administrators then Check Names then OK.  Then you should have Administrators and can assign it Full Control rights.
