Seems to me that it might indicate a problem on the Smartphone side.  If you move the SD back to the phone can your phone use the files?  Is the smart phone a Blackberry?  Model number?

Yes I can. blackberry classic.

 

However, the phone I also had this transfer freezing problem wth a different sd card in a different phone before this one.

And the transfer problem occurs with usb drives too.

Hi, again originally I said I'd be away for 6 weeks but due to much longer home maintenance issues, I'm having to stay away much longer. But I'd still love to resume this thread afterwards hopefully November-December this year! - Cheers

What is the exact make and model of your phone?

 

Can you check to see if you can set up the usb in mass storage mode?

Enabled it and it's faster but only 8-10mb/s Xfer rate.

Can I see a new Process Monitor log?  Please save it as PML (the default mode)

USB2 Scanner still only performs at usb1 speed and notifies me of that it can run faster, despite plugging & replugging.

See if you can get one of the chipset files from intel to install:
