For some reason my internet icon at the lower right screen now has a red X.

I run PIA vpn and now I can not connect to the internet unless I disable it, not sure if it's related.

Also, I absolutely am unable to uninstall Intel Proset software.

Every time I try I get an error. I've tried using Windows "Program and Features" and also tried Revo Unistaller. Neither worked.

I'm using Windows 7 64.

Maybe try uninstalling PIA, and then check if the 'x' disappears. You will at least see if the problem is connected with PIA, or is caused by something else.

Have you tried uninstalling in Safe mode? You can also try the following. Make sure you have the new Wifi drivers downloaded that you plan to install.

1. Remove the Intel® PROSet software from Control Panel
2. Go to ‘Start’ right-click on ‘Computer’ click on device manager (on the left panel) click on “Network Adapters”\Double-Click the adapter name\Drivers Tab and click on the “Uninstall”
3. Remove the Wireless folder found at C:\Users\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Intel. (if you do not see the “AppData” folder you need to “unhide “
4. Install the latest drivers.
