I think Windows Repair All In One would have probably redone the Catroot stuff so I would go straight to the in-place upgrade.

I tried to cancel my previous post, as I soon found out that Zonealarm was protecting the service from being stopped. I ran through the catalog database rebuild again to no avail.

 

So, then I decided to proceed with the in-place upgrade. The process failed because my version of installation software is an OEM edition, which I read is not usable for an in-place upgrade. Do you know if there is a retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate for download somewhere?

 

Otherwise, I suppose I am stuck until I find one.
