your chili recipe needs some work. chili isn't supposed to be sweet. spicy doesn't come from black pepper, not if you want plenty of flavor.

substitute your tomatoes for Rotel x 2 cans.
I use chugwater chili seasoning (found it at last years zestfest). 4-5 table spoons.
pinto beans with jalepeno is excellent addition. cayenne is a must.
our recipes are not to far appart. my problem is I play with the recipe everytime I make chili.

note: adding peppers is a great way to increase flavor. jalapeneo, serono, ect. just remember to remove the seeds and membrane to avoid the heat.

since moving to texas, the tex-mex cultere has significanlty altered my tastes. especially with all the stores catering to that population... mmmmm

HOBO dinner... I haven't made that since I was a kid. only we fixed it around the campfire.

healthy yes. have to most of the time because of high blood pressure. however pizza and a good greasy burger are very hard to turn down.

wow... im hungry now... time for some chili....

Starjax, I have a vegetable garden with 12 hot cayenne pepper plants going to waste.

I have 'sissy' taste when it comes to hot food.

So that is why my chili is pretty mild plus it IS the Wendy chili recipe.

They give little packets of hot sauce to 'spice it up'....

One makes it almost tooooo hot for me.
:)
And you are right, Hobo dinner is a favorite of boyscouts to cook in
a can on a campfire. :tazz:

I've been wondering what happened to my BUTTERFLY picture and
why it said I had such a few posts.
I have just realized I am signed in as flowergirl AND fflowergirl.

So since I AM a flowergirl (a 59 year old GIRL)
I am older than you thought, true?
But YOUNG AT HEART.

I will post my picture in my Elephant Head plants since I basically live in my
flower gardens until cold cold winter. :tazz:
Then I will post my picture making SNOWMEN....I love to make them snowmen!
So now I will add a simple recipe.

APPLE SALAD

I big red apple, diced (like a Red Delicious)
Wash and leave peeling on
1 stalk celery, diced
1/2 cup grapes, cut in half
OR if you don't have grapes, 1/4 cup raisons
1/4 cup peanuts

1 big scoop cool whip
approx 2 TBL of Miracle whip

Stir together...makes 2 BIG servings

Edited to add 1/2 cup minature marshmallows.
My granddaughter told me it's gotta have them!

Dish Name: Patented Dave Senette Turtle Cheesecake (guaranteed to make you slap your mamma)
Recipe By: me
Serving Size: depends on how thin you slice it but around 8 - 10
Preparation Time: 0:30
Cooking Time: 0:45
Type: Mamma slaping desert
Source: an amalgam of standard cheesecake recipes from various places

Equipment:

large mixing bowl
8-9 inch springform cheesecake pan

*Amount [Measure][Ingredient -- Preparation Method]
Crust
2 [cups][Grahm cracker crumbs (also works with crumbled Oreos®]
1 [stick][soften unsalted butter]
2 [tsp] [cinnamon]
1 [cup][light brown sugar]

preheat oven to 400 degrees F

1) grease springform pan (sides and bottom) with butter
2) mix, by hand, remainder of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and grahm cracker crumbs untill you are able to "smoosh" the mixture into a stable clump
3) bake crust for 10 - 15 minutes

Filling

*2 [lbs][cream cheese (you can use lowfat but that would be stupid)]
*3 [shells full][eggs]
*2 [tsp][cinnamon]
*1 [tsp][nutmeg
*2 [tsp][vanilla]
*1 1/2 [cups][normal white sugar]
*1 [bag][giradelli (sp?) semi sweet chocolate]
*1 [jar][high quality caramel topping (i found one made by milky way that works the best..if it's low quality it will be too runny]
* 4 - 8 [oz][ chopped walnuts]
* 4 - 8 [oz][chopped hazelnuts]

Reduce heat to 375 degrees F

1) melt the giradelli (sp?) chocolate and pour into the bottom of your baked crust (don't ask for a measurement because i belive that there is no such thing as too much chocolate) spread 1/4 to 1/2 of the available chopped nuts ontop of the chocolate and place in the freezer
2) using an electric mixer mix the cream cheese, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla untill smooth
3) mix in one egg at a time untill incorporated (if you over mix it will be bad) when properly mixed the filling is slightly off white in color.
4) pour cream cheese mixture ontop of hardened chocolate
5) bake for 35 - 45 minutes checking frequently around 38 minutes. the cheesecake will be done when the edges are slightly golden and the cheesecake feels firm-ish in the center (not hard, not liquid, but firmish)
6) allow cheesecake to cool to room temperature
7) place a small bowl upside down in the center of the cheesecake
8) pour caramel topping around the bowl and up to the edges of your crust (not too much...unless you like it messy *i love it messy)
9) pour remaining nuts into caramel
10) remove bowl
11) place in fridge overnight
12) send me a slice

wanna make yer mmama slap ya back?sub.1/2 sour cream with creamed riccotta

HarryMay's caramally recipes sound pretty darn yummy.
One kinda complicated and one an easy snack.

This is a sandwich, my middle daughter always liked.
And you YOUNG people here seem to like SIMPLE.

APPLE/CHEESE SANDWICH

2 slices bread (you know I would recommend 100% whole wheat) :tazz:
Miracle whip on both slices
Slice one apple on top of one (leave peeling on)
Lay on one slice of cheese (preferably a slice of REAL cheese, like Colby or Cheddar,
but a slice of processed American cheese is OK)

Put the lid on and EAT IT.

It is a heatlhy sandwich...fruit, grain and protein in one.
A glass of milk goes good with it.

Gramma Janie :)

POP TARTS

Open box
remove Pop Tarts from foil
insert into toaster on a low setting for about a 2 minutes
be careful when removing them from the toaster, they will be hot!
devour the Pop Tarty deliciousness! ^_^

Another Method:
Open Box
remove Pop Tarts from foil
devour the Pop Tarty deliciousness

Cold pop tarts are yummy.

Quick question: Does anyone find that service at Denny's is slower than anywhere else. My family has a joke that on their application it asks "On a scale from 1-10, how slow can you work?" It seems that whenever we go their, it takes forever to get served. Just thought I'd check everyone else's perspective on this.
