Ok
what we need to do is copy the Himem.sys file to the windows directory.
I am going to assume that your CD is D drive if not replace the drive letter with what ii should be.
Start you 98 machine change to your cd drive.At the D:>copy himem.sys c:\windows enter
then rebbot. If it boots to the c: prompt c:>win hold down the shift key all the time the computer boots. Does it start?

i loaded the bootdisk to a floppy on a neighbors computer can i put the bootdisk on a cd now

Sorry I missed that part ?
ok put the floppy in the drive DO NOT REBOOT
at the c:\windows> or c:> a: enter should now be A:>
a:>copy himem.sys c:\windows enter

If when typing any of the above commands you receive a prompt that the file already exists, ensure to overwrite it.
should say 1 file copied

Have yo pushed the disk into the drive
did a light come on?

i pushed it in but the door did not close no light-
the cd? yes?

why the registry as last resort? specially if it can get the job done...

hang on i am getting confused here
have you copied the files to a 3.5" floppy or a cd?
you said the door did not close a 3.5" does not hav a door

so sorry i have the boot on a floppy-i thought there was a door and may be it was not working right- but still no light-that's strange-- should i just reboot without the floppy and see if the light comes on
