device error windows cannot find device file....
progra~1\symantec\symevnt.386
press any key to continue
then
the windows registry or sys.ini refers to this but no longer exists.
progra~1\norton~1\navap.VXD
press any key to continue
then mpfirewl.VxD
(i noticed that the first bold letters are all in caps and the second is capital V and D and small x)
press any key to continue
MpfBocks.VxD
press any key to continue

then the cursor just blinks
then blue blank screen

I take it since you rebooted you were able to delete
the Nortons and symantec directories?

lets check the sys file.
change to c:\windows>type system.ini|more enter
This will be a large file
can you see anything at all that has any of this or the other error messages in it
C:\ PROGRA~1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386
more then likely it will be symantec or symevnt.386 in 1 of the lines.

if not we may have to do the registry.

Yes that is right

[386 Enh] is a heading

The Links you posted 2 don't work and the microsoft 1 does
However I think I have already read those 2(and the microsoft one) from
www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/w98/1020999402.

I thought you had closed off last night thats why I left - it showed you as logged out- sorry.
I think we have to do the registry
Although the computer says 98se I think it is an upgrade from 95 - just by the registry.
I am putting my 95 computer back together so I can suss out how the registry works.
I have been reading the Microsoft KB but I will try on mine 1st.
It does not matter If my computer get scr***d I just need to make sur what I tell you is the best method I can come up with.
at the c:>ver enter
write down all it says please

Nortons has a download I found the other day that might help Are you sure your CD works?
Cheers
peterm
