OK have a read of this page http://www.sevenforu...ir-install.html  it details what is kept and what is lost during an upgrade.  If you are happy I will assist you.

Basically it will replace all windows files and reset the registry to default

So this will restore Windows and I will just have to re-download all of the games I play and such?

That's not a big deal so I don't mind doing this sort of thing.

That is nearly correct, the games will still be on the computer but the registry run entries will not.  An overinstall of the games will reset them

Do you have the windows CD and you key code ?

So the progress I have on most of my games will be lost? Kind of new to this kind of stuff. See, I have the Steam gaming platform and you make an account on there so I'm wondering if Steam will save the progress with my account.

As for the CD and code, I do. c:

Have you enabled steam cloud to save your  files.  If not set it up and save the games first.  Or there is another alternative http://www.gamesave-manager.com/

I always have Steam Cloud to my games so I'm good with that. c:

Is the disc at SP1 ?  If not you will need to reinstall it once done

Now reinstall windows using the CD and the steps on the previous link... Remember this is an upgrade and not an install.

If you have any questions then please ask

Actually, yeah. I have a few CDs here and I'm not sure. I have the following that came with the computer:

- Application and Driver Recovery DVD (This DVD has a number over the barcode)

- System Recovery DVD: Windows 7 Recovery Media for Windows 7 Products (I have 3 of these)

- Office Home for Students (This is the only thing with a key code)

OK in that case you will need to be able to access a different computer to download and burn the Windows 7 SP1 ISO as I expect if you downloaded it on this system it would be corrupted

Use the link on the 7 forums page to download the correct ISO
You will need the windows key it should be on the computer somewhere and will appears similar to one of these
