i have an old computer which i generally use for browsing and documents storage... before i get to the problem, let me walk you through my machine i have a 700 mb ram,80 gb hard-disk divided into two equal parts.I have 2 windows folder on my c drive coz i didn't install xp properly and ended up installing over existing corrupted file.i had no patience to reinstall it because i couldn't bear going through the whole ordeal again. but the pc was running smoothly.

until

My sister plugged in a pen drive from here college which was massively infested and the problems started from thereon. Shock wave flash started to crash, google chrome started taking time to boot.

and every time i restarted the comp a considerable amount of space on my c drive would go missing

i have un-installed all the application including Microsoft office from my c drive and it still keeps on eating up space i checked on the properties and there is atleast 15 gb of space available but the drive shows to be full

is it a virus or plethora of viruses?? one thing that i am sure of its not the corrupted windows file coz i had reinstalled the windows in sept last year and the problems began after the infested pen drive last month....i am fed up please help i don't want to reinstall xp  or format my drive because of the data that is on the comp

i hope i have made my self clear

please help

I suspect that you have some malware on your computer causing issues that we are not able to solve through means we can use here in the Tech Forums. I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found here. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
