Hi Machivelli,

 

I replied to your message twice, posting both log files but for some reason do not see my post.

 

In any case, I installed a recent version of AVG, from March or April. Two newer versions produced the same error message. This version is in the file <avg_free_x64_all_2014_4577a7359.exe>, found on oldapps.com. As far as I could ascertain, it appears to be a safe site.

 

Re Java, it was and is disabled in my browser.

 

The machine is running ok.

You may remember, I did try to install the very latest AVG version a few days ago, but was getting an error message. The same error message was displayed when I tried to install the immediate last two versions.

 

A practical question. If I have a fairly new version (2014.0.4716) with a virus database updated today at 4am, what am I missing, technically?

Oh ok, I thought you haven't the version from 2014. If the data base is up to date , everything should be OK.
