:welcome:   Cunchy,

Use the Crucial system scanner tool to find the best recommended Ram for your system, no need to purchase from there, write down the details and then shop around for the best deal, let us know what is suggested and we will also find what we can for you.

As an asides Cunchy, it is not appropriate to ask for assistance on any forum and expect answers to be post elsewhere

I am sure that you have checked already but Dell quotes Up to 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600Mhz - 2 DIMMS for the Alienware X51, I would however like yourself double check as earlier versions may not be the same.

What did the Crucial scanner tool recommend.

Did you look at all of the compatible Ram results at the Crucial results page?

The same Ram as at your amazon link is listed as compatible with your machine at your Crucial results link - 2 Xs 8GB sticks here

Amazon offers the better deal as the Ram is less expensive + they offer free two day shipping, I don't see Crucial advertising any shipping costs so it is most likely not free.

Me personally off Crucial as they state that they guarantee compatibility.
