Good result.  Posting next steps again to save going back and forth.   It is OK to leave the storage drive and DVD drive connected.

Working on the W10 drive, W7 disconnected.

To ensure that System Restore is working.

Please read, I would use Option 1. > https://www.tenforum...ndows-10-a.html

It will configure System Protection > System restore ensuring that it is switched on, becuase, in your previous topic you found that you did not have any restore points.

OK.  Please now test by creating a manual restore point, and check it has been created.

Next steps.

!.   Run Windows Update.  Why?, When running DISM, uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required

2.   Open CMD as Admin, copy and paste > DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth  > press Enter, (wait until complete, do not close the window)

3.   Copy and paste, >  sfc /scannow > press Enter< (wait from competition) > Exit CMD.

Hopefully everything comes back OK.

There will be one more step to finish working on the W10 drive.

The operation completed successfully.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

A full Disk image backup,

A disk image creates an exact copy of the data on your hard disk. This includes the structure of the partitions on the disk and the file system format on the partition. A typical Macrium Reflect image file only includes the parts of the disk that are used by the file system, this is then compressed to reduce the image file size.  An image using standard compression will be around 60-70%  of the size of the used space of the imaged partition. A full image creates a new Image Set complete with a unique Image ID.

You won't know the size until you start to create the backup.   There will be 3, eventually, 1 W10, 2 W7,   They are the safety images while working on the drives.

I had to delete a whole heap of stuff but I am in the process of backing up now.  I will post again when complete.  Thanks for the patience.

Ok, three hours later and it is backed up.

No problems, happy to help.   OK, got that.

We need now to work on the W7 Drive.

1.   Open Disk management, take and upload a screen shot.

2.   Click Start, in search, type System > under control panel, > click  System.

3.   in the window that opens, > in the left menu, >click System Protection

Check to see that the W7 disk only has protection on,

4.   Create a manual restore point, name it Before Modifications.

----------------------------------------------------

1.   Click Start > click All Programs, take a screenshot, if all programs can't be seen, scroll up and take another shot.

2.   Open Windows Update, > Check for Windows Only Updates,  > Install.

W7 and Storage drives.

Am I correct that you are still swapping connections on drives before booting?

Yes, I have done so each time.  I am keeping the order of the SATA drives you suggested.  The only one I switch is the Win 10 / Win 7.
