norton gone -symantec still there-maybe add that ~1 like you did for the norton

in the directory i see spybot and xoftspy-probably what i used-still checking the ~ thing

when you do a dir/p
is the directory called symantec or symantec~1
we may have to empty this folder

symantec does not have ~ in dir
rd symantec result is invalid path not directory or directory not empty

Hope it does not have a lot - can be a pain.
ok
c:\progra~1>cd symantec enter
c:\progra~1\symantec>del *.* enter
the * are on top of the number 8 key
make sure you are at the c:\progra~1\symantec> prompt when you do this
if in doubt rule 2

when you do dir/p it will list and give you a <dir> and name
eg <dir> games
if yes how many and what names

Quick suggestion peterm, caron, type: dir/ad
That will list only the directories, and tell how many there are.
