Ok, so it sounds like you've solved what now, the game engine problem? Now we're back to performance, right?

Just want to double check so I don't put you on the wrong track.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in their knowledge base about that incident. I hate telling people this, but I'd like to see you ask their support department, they might know a tweak to make that work without disrupting something else.

Here is the knowledge base for CCSS

Hey, sorry again for the delay. I'm doing a lot of research on your issue, and I have just a couple leads. Please allow me a little more time to work through these leads to create instructions. Thanks.

Ok, I'm going to take this slowly so we don't miss anything...

First, download and extract the file in this ZIP folder to your desktop... Attached File  LocateDriver.zip   322bytes   203 downloads

Once extracted, double click on the file, LocateDriver.bat. The Command Prompt will open, and it should say "Working......."

Give it a few minutes, depending on how fast your system is. Once it is done, the window will close.

Once the Command Prompt closes, open Results.txt which should be on the desktop. Copy and paste that information into your next reply for me.

These results will show the location(s) of each instance(s) of that file which is causing issues. We will then determine which one is updated and do some moving around.

If you have any questions, let me know.

I see... Let's try something a little different...

Open the Search feature in Windows Vista.

Inside the search box, search for nvlddmkm.* (everything in bold, even the asterisk)

There are two possible (expected) locations for this file.
(1) %ProgramFiles%\nVidia
(2) %System32%\Drivers

If you find the file in both, right-click on the first file and click in Properties.

You should now see a version number. Copy that version number down for later reference.

Do the same for the second file, and tell me which location has which version number.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, phoenix123 :)

Please pardon my inference. This is one of those cases where we need to use tools otherwise used in the removal of malware, to have an idea of the system's structure. This will help us better understand why the previous queries have failed to work. Facedown98 will continue to assist you in a moment.

Posted ImageClick here to download HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, phoenix123 :)
  • Click on the Vista logo (used to be the "Start" button).
  • In the "Start Search" box type CMD or CMD.EXE.
  • Do NOT hit ENTER. Instead hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. It seems that this key combo triggers user account elevation and is identical to the RUNAS command or the GUI "Run as administrator" option.
  • You will be prompted by the UAC warning window. Click on CTRL+C or click on the "Continue" button.
  • Note that the CMD window has an "Administrator:" appended to the window title.
  • At the prompt type the following (Copy and paste it from here) (Please include the quotes)and press Enter after each command:

Dir /s "C:\Program Files\nvlddmkm.*"
Dir /s "C:\Windows\nvlddmkm.*"

Note the locations of the files found.

Type Exit to return to Windows

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), navigate to those locations and right click on each file and select properties to obtain information about them.

We need to know their location and respective size, date created, and version.

Post that information back here.
