At this stage all I can recommend is backup your data to a USB or CD via Reatogo. Then re-install from the recovery partition

I will be happy to assist in this if you wish

ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE IF YOU PROCEED. YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER ADAPTER PLUGGED IN. DO NOT SWITCH OFF OR RESTART YOUR COMPUTER DURING THIS PROCESS.

1) Hold down the power button for 10 (ten) seconds to switch off your machine.

Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

2) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

3) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.

4) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.

5) Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.

6) Select Recover to out-of-box state. Click Next again.

7) Click Next to Start recovery.

My wife usually saves files to my documents under the log in name louise.norbury. She works for a business and the computer syncs when she gets to work. I have gone into handy recovery but cannot find her folders. Any ideas? as I cannot save them....

If they are synched with the work files then then just create a blank folder - then when she synchs at work all files should be downloaded. What programme does she use that synchs them ?

She can't remember what it is. Does that mean that her folders would be safe at work on the server or something

That is correct it will have all files up until the last time she synched - anything done after that will not be present

What sort of files are they - and do you know the location ?

But to be sure I would back up the following folders in toto

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Application Data\OpenOffice.org
C:\Documents and Settings\Louise.Norbury\Application Data\Hermitech Laboratory
C:\Documents and Settings\Louise.Norbury\Application Data\InterVideo
C:\Documents and Settings\Louise.Norbury\Application Data\TeamViewer
C:\Documents and Settings\Louise.Norbury

Yes use Reatogo to copy all the folders to CD/USB including this one C:\Documents and Settings\Louise.Norbury\my documents

Check this page first to ensure that all you need is backed up

Once you are happy that you have all you need then restore
