Hi SD,

Sorry for the delay....the elderly relative has gone back in to hospital & is in palliative care so she will not be with us much longer. Understandably I am a bit distracted just now & also trying to sort out her affairs when she does leave us.

May I ask for your patience while I get on top of that situation?  Thanks in advance!!

Hi SD,
Things have settled down here so I thought it would be a good time to get back to normal......
First let me say Thank You very much for your patience!!

So, I went back to your post of 13JUN18, 08:29PM & worked on changing to the Administrator account.
I entered ctrl-alt-delete & signed out. When signing back in I was given two account options....'Sir!' & 'Administrator'.....I took Admin & no password was requested.
On the run up I was presented with a few text screens saying "Welcome", "Happy you are here", "Lots of exciting features...."blah, blah...
Machine eventually loaded Windows with default Windows logo....no WiFi available on machine.
I downloaded the PROset64 WiFi application to the desktop & ran as Administrator........was given a message,
"Windows Smart Screen can't be reached right now"...I ran on anyway.
I was then given error message, "Error Parsing, etc..."
post-318753-0-71745200-1528265186.jpg

Out of curiosity I had a look at Network Settings selections but it came up with a message, "This app can't open. Settings can be opened using the Built-in Administrator account. Sign in with a different account & try again."
I stopped there........

Again many thanks for your patience!   :D  :D

Hi,

There is a new Intel ProSet driver available on the website make sure you download the latest version.

Open the Start Menu and search for Windows Features on or off disable Net framework 4 and try to install the driver. On my tests the driver installation didn't ask for any net framework!

Hi SD,

Downloaded WiFi_20.60.0_PROSet64_Win10 to machine desktop.

In to Control Panel, Windows Features, turned off .NET Framework 4.6 Advanced Services.
Hit 'OK' & it began "Searching for requested files"....., then message, "Windows completed he requested changes".

Ran WiFi PROSet 64 as Administrator....
Windows Smart Screen.....etc, Run anyway.....Error Parsing again....same error as before.
post-318753-0-30291800-1530785607.jpg

Also had a look at Installed programmes & noticed that "Intel PROSet/Wireless Software (26DEC2016, 240mb) was still listed as installed!.....

Hi,

Something isn't right! can you run other programs?

Using that entry on the list of installed programs right click and select Change, check if it gives the option to repair the installation of the Intel ProSet/Wireless

SD,

When I selected Uninstall or Change I get the same error message saying it was possibly not uninstalled correctly...so I selected 'Yes' to remove it from the Programs list.

Rebooted machine & checked I could run a few programmes, VLC Media Player, Adobe Reader & GIMP (photoshop type programme)......all OK.

In to Control Panel, Windows Features, checked .NET Framework 4.6 Advanced Services was still 'Off'.
Ran WiFi PROSet 64 as Administrator.....Error Parsing again....same error as before.

Hi,

Download FRST using the working computer and use a flash drive to transfer the tool to the other computer.

Search with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
  • Download FRST or FRST x64 and save it to the Flash Drive.
(Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you don't know which version matches your system, try FRST if it say that is not compatible with your OS you have to use FRST64
  • Execute FRST/FRST64 right click on the icon FRST.gif and choose Run as Administrator. Make sure all other windows are closed.
(When the Tool opens for the first time you must click Yes on the disclaimer.)
    FRST_Search.png
  • On the Search box type or Copy & Paste the following text:
    machine.config*
  • Press the Search Files button.
  • Wait for the search to finish FRST will produce a log called (Search.txt) in the same directory the Tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your post.

Hi,

Open the folder C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config and rename the file machine.config to machine.config.old

on the same folder copy the file machine.config.default to machine.config

Hi SD,

Did that & rebooted machine to see if anything happened but machine booted up OK in to Administrator as before, so I just shut it down OK without doing anything else.

(Just to mention that we did this on 08JUN but this was before we switched User to 'Administrator'....)

Hi SD,

Ran the installation for WiFi PROSet64 & it loaded up nicely & ran for about 20secs until got the following 'Error parsing' message regarding the 'bsutil.exe' file......
Error Parsing 31JUL18.JPG

Clicked OK & installation continued......or seemed to, but after a few minutes of no scroll bar progress I cancelled......which also went in to an endless loop display & just kept saying, "Cancelling.....". I had to shut it down through Task Manager.
Rebooted machine & it came back up in to Windows Desktop with the Intel PROSet installation loaded again but asking me to agree to the EULA agreement....I selected 'Yes' & 'Install'...& ran up to the same point as before & the same "error parsing' message....
I selected OK, it came back with the same error parsing message & then the Intel page saying, "Success", so I selected 'Finish'. My 'Network settings' still only shows 'Airplane mode' as an option. In Settings it tells me there are no wireless devices on the PC.
I then went in to Programs, found the 'Intel PROSet software listed & selected, 'Change', & 'Repair'. Programme ran until it came up with the same Error parsing message for 'bsutil.exe' file again. Hit 'OK" twice again & it told me, "Success". Same result though with no WiFi on the machine......

** I did note that the error message was for 'machine.config' file in 'Framework64' folder, whereas we had changed the 'machine.config' file in the 'Framework' folder & not the 'Framework64' folder.
Should I try to do the 'machine.config' file renaming in the 'Framework64' folder now?.......
