Google Apps Marketplace Launches!

Earlier this evening, Google announced on its blog that the new Google Apps Marketplace is finally ready for your creative submissions. However, these Apps aren’t the same type as you would find for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Instead, this will be a store for enterprise apps in the cloud. Using a set of APIs, these third-party apps will be able to integrate their products within Google Apps.

Windows Patch Day – Bring on the BSOD!

Windows XP users are not very happy campers this week. Microsoft is busy investigating a multitude of reports that claim MS10-015, which was rolled out on Tuesday, is causing XP installations to blue-screen. Microsoft has acknowledged that this particular patch appears to be at fault, but are still unwilling to state that the issues are related solely to that. Instead, they are looking in to the situation further, trying to determine if this could possibly be the result of interoperability issues with another component, or even third-party software.

Are You an Apple Fanboy?

You know exactly who I’m talking about, don’t you? Fanboys are those people who swear that one manufacturer or another is better than everyone else. They will argue until they are blue in the face, claiming that nothing can possibly come close to being as good as their beloved company and its products. I have witnessed some ludicrous statements in my time coming from fanboys, but none as bad as the one directed at me on Wednesday – from an Apple fanboy!

Apple iPad is Now a Reality

It’s finally official: Apple is releasing their very own tablet computer. The sleek little iPad boasts a 9.7 inch display that is a fully-functional multi-touch screen. It’s only half of an inch thick, and weighs just over a pound. You can purchase one of these with anywhere from 16 GB to 64 GB of storage. The device will support WiFi, and some models will allow 3G connections – via AT&T, of course. There’s a built-in speaker and mic, much like the iPhone has. The battery life is purported to be about ten hours! All of this sounds fantastic on the surface, doesn’t it? However, there are a few very large drawbacks that I have to point out.

Is Your Password Strong Enough?

In December of last year, a hacker gained access to more than 32 million usernames and passwords from the users of RockYou. After obtaining and studying the data from that hack, data security firm Imperva has come up with a list of the top ten most common passwords. In reading the list of passwords, I felt the need to pick my mouth up off of the floor. In this day and age of Identity Theft, people are still using things such as 123456 as a password!

Carry Your Entire Computer in Your Pocket

I bet you are raising an eyebrow at me right about now. You’re thinking that I’ve likely lost my mind. After all, everyone knows you cannot put your whole computer into your pocket. You cannot possibly cram all of your data, your operating system and your software onto a tiny little old USB Flash drive. It’s not even thinkable that you could then plug said drive into any computer – anywhere – and run YOUR computer environment in an instant. If you now think I’ve gone off the deep end, you might want to sit back and prepare to be dazzled.
